Ready to scrap memories
Yolanda Chesworth from the Scrapbook Wizard.
Gone are the days when you would come back from holidays and simply put your happy snaps in an album and forget about them. A technique known as scrapbooking is now converting old photographs and scrapbooks into a pictorial record of people's lives.
"Scrapbooking is a wonderfully creative and addictive way to save those special moments that happen everyday," said Yolanda Chesworth of the Scrapbook Wizard in Alstonville.
"Scapbooking is a way of presenting photographs and memories in a visually appealing way. It's also a way of preserving family histories. We encourage people to put photographs and memorabilia in context by adding journal entries near photographs that can help tell a story," Yolanda said.
Yolanda, a former primary school teacher and self-confessed "scrapping" addict, started the Scrapbook Wizard three months ago and has been amazed at the response she has received.
"I really think this sort of work touches a chord in people. Our classes are nearly completely filled for the whole month. I believe its success revolves around its emphasis on the family. It's very much a social event, an opportunity for people to get together, compare work, and talk about their lives. We have a lot of young mums who regularly come in of an evening after they've put the kids to bed," she said.
The Scrapbook Wizard conducts free adult classes for beginners and more advanced classes for just $10 that includes all materials. Yolanda will even supply tea, coffee and nibbles. Children's classes cost $5.
The Scrapbook Wizard sells everything you will need to start scrapping including its own range of accessories and embellishments, as well as a wide range of stationery, paper supplies, card making materials, stencils, and stamps.
The business has also recently been nominated for an award in the best new business category of the Ballina Shire Business awards.
You can contact Yolanda on 6628 8005, or drop in to have a browse at Shop 2, 78B Main Street, Alstonville. The Scrapbook Wizard is open seven days.
