Down the lane to potters heaven
Proprietor Paula Bradley with her dog Maggie, the inspiration for the name of her line of home-grown coffee, Blue Dog Coffee, which can be purchased from Northern Rivers Pottery and Craft Supplies.
Tucked away at the end of a quiet lane off Terania Street in North Lismore is a little haven for potters, the Northern Rivers Potters and Craft Supplies.
There you will find everything a potter could dream of. The shop stocks all manner of potter's requisites, from the raw materials of clays and glazes through to kiln cones and everything in between. Proprietor Paula Bradley is aware that the costs of the craft are an issue for provincial potters.
"I look to ensure that stock is reasonably priced, ensuring the professional and craft potter can both access and afford just what they need," she said.
The selection of clays on hand include the popular local Buff Raku Trachite (BRT), a sturdy clay that gives a speckled finish, Buff Raku Sand (BRS), and Keane White Raku, a beautiful soft clay that is ideal for hand building and can be easily thrown on a wheel, even though it is a raku clay. Paula even stocks paper clay. Paper clay is a strong clay that is repaired easily at green ware stage and has a light density after firing.
This is a total pottery centre. There is even a potter's noticeboard.
Paula also stocks a large range of frits, shaping, carving and finishing tools, wheels, kilns and gas fittings, and is an agent for Venco wheels and products.
Paula offers a firing service, has green ware for sale and has studio space for hire. Northern Rivers Potters and Craft Supplies is down the lane beside Rainbow Wholefoods at 54d Terania St, Nth Lismore. Ph 6621 4688.
