Dick Morrissey, proprietor of Morrissey Cabinets in South Lismore, has spent his entire life making kitchens for other people.
After leaving school Dick got his qualifications as a cabinet maker with Hampton and Larsson, and he went on to join a local building company in 1968
as manager of their factory. In 1980 he bought the business and began working as proprietor of Morrissey Cabinets.
The born and bred Lismore local has spent the last three decades building his humble business into a thriving enterprise, and today he is one of the
most well-respected and reputable cabinet makers in the Northern Rivers region.
“I’ve been established here for 34 years and while I can’t claim to be a Southie I’ve lived and worked in Lismore all my life…
I don’t think you can get much more local than that,” Dick said.
“That’s why I rarely advertise, because it’s all about word of mouth in this town. A person buys a new kitchen and a friend will see it
and tell another friend – it just goes from there. But seeing I’ve been here since 1968 I must be doing something right, and I think that shows
in the number of call backs we get, which is none. We build kitchens to last with top quality products and provide a friendly service, which has always
paid off.
“If you’re going to live and work in your home town then you have to be honest and reliable – anyone who’s a local could tell you
that.”
Dick currently runs the business with cabinet maker Ben Lynch, who has been with Dick since he joined the industry as an apprentice six years ago.
Together the pair make and install upmarket domestic kitchens and also do shop fit outs, using all the latest European and German fittings, plus the
best quality materials.
Every two years Dick and Ben travel to Sydney where they attend a huge cabinet making expo, so they are up-to-date with all the latest mod-cons and fittings
available for kitchens.
People can have kitchens made from classy materials such as granite, marble or stainless steel (to name just a few) and there are thousands of paint
colours and different finishes to choose from.
Dick does work for many local businesses and organisations, including Trinity Catholic College, and provides bar and hotel fit-outs for many of the pubs
and clubs in the region.
