So Long, Thanks for all the Fish
Former Luckys Seafood owners Laurie and Lesley Allen, who have hung up their aprons after 23 years cooking fish and chips in Lismore.
For someone who knew nothing about cooking takeaway food 23 years ago, Laurie Lucky Allen has made a name for himself. He retired last week after more than two decades of cooking fish and chips, handing over the reigns at Luckys Seafood in East Lismore to Steve and Christine Clarke.
And while Laurie and his wife Lesley are leaving, their reputation will live on.
So many people told us it was the best fish and chip shop in town, including people who only occasionally visit the area, new owner, Steve Clarke, said. We have retained the staff and our main aim is to maintain the same level of quality and service Laurie was renowned for.
Laurie and Lesley went into business in 1980, opening Lucky Lauries. A decade ago they opened Luckys Seafood their biggest success story yet.
We still have customers from the first fish and chip shop we owned who have followed us they were young when we started and weve watched them grow all their lives. Ill really miss the people, and having a joke with the customers, but its time I went out into the paddock to graze, Laurie said.
And if theres anyone Laurie wants to thank, its his staff Marlene, Natalie, Amy, Kylie and Stacey.
These girls are the best they are just unbelievable, Laurie said. People would literally stop me in the street and say where did you get your staff? Theyre terrific.
