The word calligraphy comes from the Greek for 'beautiful writing' and for the past five years Lisa Nevins has been producing exactly that through her business, Lisa's Art and Calligraphy.
"Producing something beautiful can be very therapeutic," Lisa says. "And beautiful words, like a much loved poem, can be made even more special if they look attractive."
Lisa specialises in preparing or customising beautifully written invitations, certificates, diplomas, or services for weddings and funerals.
"Having something attractive to look at can enhance people's memories of a special day. A piece of writing that has been embellished with hand scripting can turn a simple piece of paper into a much treasured memento," she says.
But Lisa doesn't just do calligraphy, she also provides an art and design service that includes the creation of corporate styles and logos as well as commissioned art works.
From more prosaic beginnings as a showcard and ticket writer Lisa's art has grown to encompass a variety of different forms and media.
"I've written on vellum and replaced the Roman numerals on the face of an antique clock. I've even written on a pair of drumsticks."
