A new venture in Leather
Proprietor of LeatherLvst, Brad Ryan, with some of his exquisite leather pieces.
Local leatherworker Brad Ryan has opened a new shop in Lismore, aptly named LeatherLvst.
Brad, a former high school teacher, decided to pursue his long-time passion for leatherwork and devote himself full-time to the art and craft of leatherworking.
LeatherLvst is unique in that customers can not only purchase exquisite pieces, but they can actually be involved in the creative process or even learn the craft for themselves.
"It's a strong part of my philosophy to teach others the traditional art of leather crafting so it is passed down from generation to generation," Brad said. "I love the craft and I chose the name LeatherLvst to express my passion for leather crafting."
Brad has designs of, and can create a range of, shoulder and handbags, satchels, pouches, purses, wallets, belts and stationary covers, plus customers are invited to browse through Brad's extensive library of leathercraft texts, manuals and patterns.
All products are hand-stitched in the traditional manner using the tools and techniques that produce durable and long lasting leather goods. Brad can modify and decorate these basic traditional designs to give each leather item a personal touch using a variety of techniques including carving, stamping, stitching and lacing.
Alternatively, people can actively participate in the entire process from the design creation through to the final decorative touches and be involved in the crafting of a unique, one-off leather good.
Brad also restores and repairs old and damaged leather goods to their former glory. What cannot be restores can be copied and recreated.
LeatherLvst is at 26 Carrington Street (upstairs, next to Caddies). Drop in and see Brad anytime to discuss a design for customised leathergoods or phone him on 6622 7478.
