Learning through Music
Enjoying a recent Kidsmusik class is teacher Fiona Clarke (centre) with (l-r) Jubilee Smith and daughter Josephine, Chris McNally and her boys Lewis and Jordon, Anita Bellman and her son Angus Fletcher, Pauline Hooper with her boy Tali and Jeannette Flynn and her daughter Robyn.
Local music teacher Fiona Clarke has established Kidsmusik classes to give children the opportunity to experience music through a variety of vocal, movement and instrumental activities.
Fiona, a born and bred local, has been operating the classes for the last eight years, teaching music to children aged two to five years as well as school aged children, from kindergarten age to year three.
Fiona says the benefit of Kidsmusik classes is that children can develop musical skills at an early age without the cost and commitment of learning a specified instrument.
"If your child is showing an interest in music but they aren't quite ready for formal lessons Kidsmusik classes are a fun way of learning about music," Fiona said. "Many of the students that I give individual instrument tuition to began their music lessons in my pre-school classes. The classes can act as a stepping stone to bigger things."
As a trained primary school teacher Fiona says she also sees music as a valuable tool in aiding children in other key learning areas, such as language development and mathematics.
Classes for both age groups are held each week in Ballina, Alstonville, Lismore and Lennox Head. Fiona is particularly looking for enrolments in Ballina, Lennox Head and Alstonville. For times, dates, costs, information or to enrol phone Fiona now on 0428 116 969.
