A natural alternative
Naturopath Melanie Lock says the body has a natural ability to heal itself and achieve optimum health.
Natural therapies such as herbal medicine, homeopathy and iridology have come a long way in recent years, and much of the credit for their improved standing is due to the development of accredited programs in our universities and colleges.
With a Bachelor of Human Health Science majoring in naturopathy, naturopath Melanie Lock says that such qualifications are an essential component of effective naturopathy.
"It provides a more thorough understanding and appreciation of the vital processes of the body, and is a great move towards professional accreditation of naturopaths and natural therapists."
Melanie has recently moved into rooms in the Alstonville Medical Centre, where she offers a range of natural therapy options, including herbal medicine, homeopathy, iridology, remedial body work, counselling and advice on lifestyle change.
"The main aim of a naturopath is to assist or restore the natural functions and systems of the body, such as proper digestion. We try to stimulate, support, and sustain the body's natural innate power to heal itself and achieve optimum health."
"Treatment and assessment is based on the whole person and is individualised to suit each particular case," Melanie said.
And being located in an established conventional medical practice is a tremendous vote of confidence.
"While my work is quite discrete from theirs, my presence nevertheless points to a greater acceptance of alternative therapies among the medical fraternity."
Melanie is available for consultations every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at the Alstonville Medical Centre, 15 Bugden Avenue (the Bruxner Highway), Alstonville.
For appointments, call the centre on 6628 3101.
