Hemp scheme in pipeline
A draft of the proposed licensing scheme to allow industrial hemp production in NSW is available for public comment until September 19.
Minister for primary industries Ian Macdonald said industrial hemp would provide farmers with the additional option of another fast-growing summer crop that can be used in rotation with winter grain crops.
“It will give farmers another tool to deal with the challenges of climate change,” Mr Macdonald said.
“Hemp seed oil can be used as a base for skin care products and paints.”
The proposed licensing scheme will be available from the NSW DPI website at www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/regulation-review. Copies are also available by contacting Bev Zurbo on 6938 1976 or email beverley.zurbo@dpi.nsw.gov.au.
Information about the licence application process will be available from the NSW DPI website www.dpi.nsw.gov.au by early October.
