Police seek missing birds
Police are investigating the disappearance of 30 native birds from a Lismore Heights aviary.
The birds were stolen from Interchange Respite Care Inc in Balmer Ave sometime on Tuesday night.
The centre’s coordinator, Di Hughes, said she found the aviary torn open and the birds gone when she arrived for work on Wednesday morning.
“It’s obvious that the birds did not get out on their own, the heavy mesh and been pulled off the frame and folded back neatly,” Mrs Hughes said. “The birds, two Princess Parrots and 28 cockatiels were a major attraction for the disabled children who attend the centre.”
She said investigating police had estimated the value of the Princess Parrots, which were a breeding pair, at $300 and the cockatiels at $50 each.
Anyone with information should contact Lismore Police on 6626 0599.
