Artists of all ages and from all genres gathered together last Friday night with around 150 interested art lovers for the opening of the much-anticipated exhibition, which is now famous for the high calibre of artworks it attracts.
The art prize encompasses all types of art, including traditional painting, Aboriginal art, sculpture, photography, drawing and youth art, with prizes for the most impressive works in each section.
Alstonville painter Glen Vause scooped the pool at the prize presentation last Friday, winning the $1000 Best in Show prize, plus first and second in traditional painting, and even the People's Choice Award.
"This year's show has just been superb - on the whole the standard of artwork is extremely high," coordinator, Kate Welch, said. "The show draws some of the region's finest artists together and I think the results speak for themselves. It's really very impressive." Winning artworks will be on show at Armistead's Gallery from next Wednesday, November 5, for a fortnight. Armistead's Gallery is at 43b Wyrallah Road (in the Wotherspoons building). |
