Local artists Rhonda Baker and John Armistead have recently established a new gallery in Lismore, Armistead's Gallery, to complement their picture framing business in Wyrallah Road.
Rhonda and John opened the gallery to provide local artists, whether novice or experienced, with another venue to display their work, and different exhibitions will now go on show every fortnight. A new exhibition featuring a series of seascapes by Terry Mayo, For the Pleasure of It, is currently on show at the gallery, along with one-off artworks by other local artists and some of Rhonda's own work.
"I've been studying fine arts at Lismore TAFE for the last three years and I found it was quite hard for emerging artists to get their work shown as there's often a long waiting list at galleries," Rhonda said. "There's so much talent in the Northern Rivers and so few places to display that talent, so we wanted to provide an alternative forum where people could show their work. So far the response has been excellent, and we welcome any artists interested in doing an exhibition to contact us."
For the Pleasure of It is on show until November 4, after which the winners of this weekend's Coraki Tea Tree Art Prize will be on display. Any artists interested in showing their work should phone Rhonda on 6622 8011. Armistead's Gallery is at 43b Wyrallah Road (in the Wotherspoons building). |
