Identity (MA)

Directed by James Magold

Think Agatha Christie's Ten Little Indians meets Hitchcock's Psycho... throw in a torrential downpour, bring it into the 21st century and add a whole lot more blood and guts and sort of get an idea where Identity is coming from.Think Agatha Christie's Ten Little Indians meets Hitchcock's Psycho... throw in a torrential downpour, bring it into the 21st century and add a whole lot more blood and guts and sort of get an idea where Identity is coming from.

Of course whether this thriller-chiller becomes a cinema classic like Hitchcock's eponymous motel-with-shower is debatable, but it sure is a fun way to spend 90 minutes if your idea of a good time is playing guess who the killer is and just generally being creeped out. Personally I love a good, scary movie, (emphasis on "good") and I wasn't disappointed with Identity After all it stars one of my all time favourite actors, the very talented Mr John Cusack. I trust his taste, so I figured Identity must have a decent story and script. What it also has is buckets of atmosphere, intriguing characters, plenty of nail-biting, edge-of –the –seat moments and superior cast.

Now I don't want to give too much away, so I won't. Basically the plot goes like this: a group of strangers find themselves stranded at a dump of a motel in the middle of the Nevada desert during a flood. If that's not bad enough there's a killer on the loose and one by one the guests are being murdered. Quite gruesomely I may add. What's the connection between the hooker (Amanda Peet), the ex-cop turned limo driver (Cusack), the really scary cop (surprise, surprise it's Ray Liotta!), the bitchy actress (Rebecca DeMornay) family man (John C. McGinley), the newlyweds (Clea Duvall and William Lee Scott), sleazy motel owner Larry (John Hawkes), poor little Timmy (Brett Loche) and badass convict (Gary Bussey)?

Apart from the fact that most of them are dead before morning, that is! Can you guess? You'll be surprised. There are some pretty cool twists in this masterful murder mystery.
