Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (M)

Directed By Jonathan Mostow

Some of the other contenders who auditioned for Arnie's role in T3. Guess he won it for his charisma. Some of the other contenders who auditioned for Arnie's role in T3. Guess he won it for his charisma.

He promised he'd be back and although it's been 12 years since T2 (note to Telstra shareholders: no, not that T2), Arnie's just as tough and just as cool as ever.

That's the fantastic news about T 3 - in a world where the carbon paper wears thin pretty quickly for sequels, the third Terminator instalment is just as exciting, action-packed and enthralling as the first two. And how often can you say that about any sequel? Well okay, it's not quite as scary as the original Terminator (not that it was as creepy as T2), back when Arnie was a badass evil terminator (which Presidential aspirations...). Anyway, back to T3... replacing Edward Furlong as the child prodigy, John Connor, is Nick Stahl. Now in his early 20s, Connor is a loner with no fixed address. His mother is dead and although he believes they stopped Judgement Day, he lives in constant fear of more terminators from the future being sent to kill him. He has every right to be afraid because this time an even more advanced killing machine has been sent to find him. Known as model T-X, the Terminatrix (played by leggy blonde model Kristanna Loken) has only one mission: to assassinate the future leader of the humans and his future lieutenants, one of whom is young veterinary assistant Kate Brewster (Claire Danes).

Help! Where's a friendly terminator when you need it? Not too far away, thank goodness. Hot on the high heels of the T-X is a T-800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger), an outdated but still formidable terminator sent to protect John Connor... With every second of its 90 minutes jam-packed full of action, suspense and classic Arnie one-liners, (which had me cracking up), Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines will have you on the edge of your seat throughout. (And the ending will completely blow you away!).

But what elevates T3 above your average blockbuster sequel is the fact that it makes you care. Yep, the screenwriters have done a great job. Amongst all the explosions, awesome chases and special effects is a decent story and well-developed characters you actually give a damn about. You've got to love that. Lets just hope it's not another 12 years before "T4" hits our screens, for Arnie's sake...
