Lighting the way

The ninth annual Lismore Lantern Parade was a huge success at its new home Riverside Park this year, with more than 5,000 people gathering to see the fiery finale on the banks of the Wilson's River, last Friday.

Parade coordinator Jyllie Jackson said despite the few hiccups along the way, it was still one of the most magical parades yet.

"It was a beautiful night and came from a lot of hard work and good hearts," Jyllie said. "Being our first time in the new park it was a big learning experience for everyone involved and we realise some changes need to be made, but there we also some things beyond our control. But it was still a fantastic night. This was the biggest parade yet and we had a lot of visitors from interstate, which is great to see for Lismore. It's something very special for the community and I've already received some really positive feedback. I've had numerous emails from people who came for the first time this year, and they just couldn't believe their eyes!"

Unfortunately bucket donations for the parade were considerably less this year, and with little funding from outside sources, Jyllie needs donations to keep the event alive.
