The multicultural family day honours the vision of the late Bundjalung Elder Fay Smith, as well as all other grandmothers for their dedication to family and community. The Grandmother Drum itself was made in a remote Alaskan village, where residents embedded more than 200 clear and rose quartz crystals in its base. The drum is dedicated to fostering peace and unity, and can be used by more than 20 people at one time. On Saturday there will be local performing arts and dance groups performing, and people will also have the opportunity to hear the drum and meet the drumkeeper, Suraj Holzwarth. This will be a very interesting experience, and is one of the few chances you'll ever get to see the Grandmother Drum, the only one of its kind in the world, rst-hand. The day runs from 2-6pm and all are welcome.Tickets are $20/15, $10 for kids under 15 or $50 for a family. There is also a one-day drum making workshop near Bangalow next Tuesday, June 3, where people can make a small replica of the Grandmother Drum.
