Two Weeks Notice
Directed by Mark Lawrence
Still in holiday mode and can't stand the thought of sitting through a movie where you actually have to put your brain in gear? Had your fill of sex, violence and bad language over the New Year break and want to see a nice movie, which has none of the above?
Well you couldn't get anything much lighter or frothier than the romantic comedy Two Weeks Notice.
It's your basic Prince Charming meets the girl of his dreams, only of course neither of them realise it, etc etc, and we all know how the story is going to end... But along the way, there are plenty of laughs, some nicely timed repartee and solid chemistry between the two stars, Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant.
Bullock plays Lucy Kelson, a Harvard Law graduate and environmental advocate attempting to save neighbourhood landmarks in New York city. Grant plays George Wade, a millionaire real estate developer determined to bulldoze anything that stands in the way of his company's plans. Tired of his playboy brother hiring female lawyers with big breasts and dubious credentials, Howard Wade (Four Weddings and a Funeral's David Haig) insists that George hire a lawyer who is actually good at law (but also gets to be a human being to boot). Enter Lucy.
Could these two be a perfect match? Maybe not. After a year of being at George's beck and call anytime of the day or night, Lucy has had enough and gives two weeks notice...
Predictable? Yes! Shakespeare? No! Chick flick? Pretty much. Safe to take mum and gran to? Most certainly. Good fun? If you're in the mood for some harmless fluff, most definitely!
