The Banger Sisters (M)
Written and directed
by Bob Dolman
Susan Sarandon and Goldie Hawn .
Once upon a time there were two best friends Vinny (Susan Sarandon) and Suzette (Goldie Hawn). They liked to go see bands, dance and shag rock stars. They were so good at it, (shagging that is, not dancing) that they became known as the Banger sisters, a nickname supposedly bestowed on them by Frank Zappa (who, for all you rock trivia buffs out there, apparently never slept with groupies. Oops!)
The years passed (like they do) and Vinny grew up. She changed her name to Lavinia, moved to Phoenix, married an attorney with political aspirations (Robin Thomas), had two daughters Hannah (Erika Christensen) and Ginger (Sarandons real life daughter Eva Amurri) and tried to forget about her past.
Suzette (Goldie Hawn) also grew. Well, her breasts did anyway. She got a boob-job, continued to work as a bartender at the Whisky A Go-Go and reminisce about the good old days when she shagged Jim Morrison in the clubs bathroom.
But all good things must come to an end and when Suzette finds herself unemployed and broke she decides to take a road trip to Phoenix to visit her old pal Vinny and hit on her for some cash.
Great plan. Pity she hasnt got enough money to actually make it in Phoenix.
Enter failed writer Harry (Geoffrey Rush). Hes got plenty of money, which is good. Whats not so good is the loaded pistol he intends to use on his dad.
How will Lavinia react when Suzette turns up on her doorstep after 20 years? How will her family react when they discover how Mum used to get her kicks? How will Harry react when he gets lucky after not getting any for 10 years? And most importantly
did Goldie use a bum stand-in? She looks fabulous! Sarandon, now batting 60, shows a mature gal still has it in the sex appeal department.
The Banger Sisters is no huge laugh-fest but it is good fun. Recommend viewing for a girls night out! (Yep, its a chick flick.)
