The competition is designed to show a special moment of interaction between a baby, child or teenager and their father, stepdad, grandfather, uncle, sports coach or any other significant male in their lives. "It's about affirming positive moments of men with children, and this year it's not going to be easy for the judges as many of the photos capture some really special moments," competition coordinator, Chris Hawke, said. "People respond better to a pat on the back rather than a kick in the pants when it comes to parenting, and this is a pat on the back for all those men who are doing the right thing by our children."
The competition will be judged by Lismore Camera Club president Marie Cook, Koori Mail editor Todd Condi and Echo journalist Terra Sword. Winners will be announced on Friday and presented with their $100 prizes, however, people can still vote for the People's Choice Award as the exhibition travels around the region.
The exhibition will be on show all day next Wednesday, September 4 at the shops opposite Woolworths in Casino and will be at Ballina Fair and other venues during September (for more information on venues and dates phone Chris on 6622 3143). The exhibition will then be on show from October 2-7 at Lismore Shopping Square from 9am-4pm daily.
The National Father's Day Photo Competition is an initiative of the Family Journeys/Father Son Journeys program auspiced by Community Connections North Coast Inc and supported by the Department of Family and Community Services.
