Arts NewsA Window into Josephine's WorldA retrospective exhibition by Coraki-based artist Josephine Window entitled The Brightness of Being will open this Saturday, February 2, at the Nimbin Regional Gallery. The exhibition includes a selection of paintings and drawings spanning a decade of Josephine's career, dating from her first solo exhibition in Sydney in 1991. Josephine's works feature a variety of techniques - from brightly-coloured paintings to more subdued mixed media works - which she says keeps things interesting.
'It's always a challenge to explore new ideas and develop new skills and techniques,' she said. 'Experimentation to further my knowledge of colour, abstraction, figure drawing from life models and more recently, portraiture, provides that ongoing excitement and challenge which sustains my creative drive.'
Josephine graduated from the University of NSW's College of Fine Arts in 1986 and since then she has had numerous exhibitions. In the last few years however, Josephine has shown very little work and she is looking forward to the prospect of getting some feedback. 'I haven't shown a lot of work in recent years so I'll definitely have my ear to the ground,' she said. 'Different people always perceive artwork in different ways, and I'll be interested to see what everyone thinks. I just hope people find some brightness and some beauty in it!' The exhibition will open this Saturday at 11.30am, with the gallery open daily from 10am-5pm. The Brightness of Being is on show until February 28. |
