Friendly Natives Show Their Art

The Kyogle and District Art Council's biennial Art & Craft exhibition, entitled The Natives are Friendly, is currently on show at the Roxy Gallery, Kyogle.

The exhibition showcases the work of more than 20 artists from around the region, some of whom have never had the chance to exhibit their work before.

According to the Roxy Gallery's coordinator, Tony Adams, this has resulted in a very diverse exhibition of works ranging from traditional landscapes to contemporary sculptures.

'The Natives are Friendly offers viewers a selection of works by local artists, ranging from paintings, prints and sculptures to gift cards, colouring-in books, bowls and boxes,' Tony said.

'Evident in this exhibition is the amount of artists working with a local resource - wood. The woodwork in the show includes large furniture items like tables, benches and screens as well as plates, letters openers and wine corkstoppers. The contrasts of woods vary as much as the objects themselves and they include teak, white beech, she-oak and of course, red cedar.

'The Natives are Friendly also features Aine's paper thin clay forms, Ludwig Rodler's wrought iron pieces, leadlight mobiles and a myriad of mirrors as well as the more traditional landscape, figurative and still-life paintings.'

The Natives are Friendly is on show until January 16.
