2001 Dolphin Awards

Vassella Triumphs at Dolphin Awards

Singer/songwriter Luke Vassella scored a hat-trick at Tuesday night's Dolphin Awards, winning the devotional, rock and country sections to become the most successful musician of the year.

The 11th annual Dolphin Awards, organised by the North Coast Entertainment Industry Association, honour the best musicians and songwriters in the region.

Funkster Sam Crawford, aka the ProDJuicer, also picked up a trio of awards for dance, experimental and funk.

It was also a good night for musical and life partners Chris Fisher and Marcell Townsend-Cross, who respectively won the environmental and indigenous categories. Together as Monkey and the Fish, the CD cover for their album In Cahoots, painted by Oral Roberts and Roy Gordon, won best artwork.

Singer Susanna Crawford won The Echo-sponsored female vocal award.

And after a two-year labour of love, singer/songwriter Jodi Martin was rewarded for her efforts on her new album Water and Wood, by taking out album of the year.
