Arts News1000 Pictures LaterTo celebrate two artistic milestones in her life, the completion of her 1000th painting and her first ten years as a professional artist, Christine Porter is holding a retrospective exhibition at the Lismore Regional Gallery.
The exhibition, cunningly titled One Thousand Paintings, features 33 of Christine's finest works, done in her trademark delicate watercolour style. The works all feature agricultural scenes and buildings inspired by her numerous painting expeditions to outback Queensland and North West NSW. From an old mailbox to a herd of cattle and an old shearing shed, the exhibition is beautifully presented diary of all that is uniquely Australian. 'In 1999 I was describing myself as a serial artist in residence,' Christine said. 'People would invite me to paint their properties. I listened to what was important to them but all the time I was looking and recording what it was I saw as well.'
Christine will give a free lunchtime demonstration in printmaking next Wednesday, October 31 from 12.30pm. Christine will demonstrate multi-plate colour etching including a la poupe and plate to plate registration. A very informative talk, especially for printmakers using the intaglio process. One Thousand Paintings is on show until November 25. |
