Big Brush with Big Scrub
Rhythms of the Rainforest is a new exhibition opening this Friday at the Kolinda Gallery in Alstonville. Featuring more than 60 works from over 20 noted local and interstate artists, the show captures all the beauty of the rainforest, from majestic waterfalls, to gently flowing streams, tranquil ponds surrounded by moss covered rocks, to the wildlife. The works range from watercolours, to oils, pastel, acrylic, pencil, charcoal, photography and hand painted linocuts, which all strive to capture subtle diversities of the forest and the light within.
Local artists featured in the show include Margaret Brown, Ian Cole, David Lane, Tom Offord, Pauline Smith, Alan Waters, Lynette Weir and Vic Yeates. Queensland artists John Milenkovic and Terry Wilkinson are also exhibiting inspiring rainforest images. The exhibition is to be officially opened on Friday the 28th of September at 7.30pm by local identity and Byron Bay artist, Raylee Delaney, and on Saturday morning after the opening, the gallery is running an outdoor Rainforest Watercolour Workshop tutored by Tom Offord. Rhythms of the Rainforest runs from Friday, September 28 until October 14. The Kolinda Gallery is open 10am-5pm every day during school holidays. Entry is free. Phone 6628 0297. |
