Lilith's HoroscopesHoroscope with Lilith

With this week's shockwaves bombarding our world, some words from indefatigable peace activist Tenzin Gyatso, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, may keep Aussie hearts from hardening towards Middle Eastern people - especially those who've made Australia their home. After fifty years of brutal violence and genocide towards Tibetan people, these are his teachings…

'Bees - with no constitution, laws, police or religion - have an instinctive sense of social responsibility and all work together for their mutual survival. Human beings have vast legal systems, police and armed forces, moral philosophies, remarkable intelligence and hearts with a great capacity to love. Yet despite our extraordinary qualities, we lag behind these small insects. In many ways I feel we are poorer than the bees…'

Aries: Instead of striking out at the object of our anger, it is more constructive to try to understand, and forgive, our enemies. Particularly when the provocation is extreme, because then the potential for doing good for oneself and others is greater.

Taurus: Each of us must learn to work not just for his or her own self, family or nation, but for the benefit of all mankind. Universal responsibility is the real key to our continuing human survival, and also the best foundation for world peace.

Gemini: Ignorance is the source of hatred, and the way to get rid of ignorance is the realisation that regard for others is the basic foundation of our peace and happiness. To achieve this we must practise patience. The best teachers of patience are our enemies.

Cancer: All humans come from a mother's womb. We are all part of the same human family. For a stable future, we must develop sincere, warm-hearted feelings of brother and sisterhood. From the least to the most important, the affection and respect of others are vital for human happiness.

Leo: It is time for the world to learn to transcend differences of race, culture and ideology. It is our collective and individual responsibility to protect and nurture the global family, to support its weaker members, and to preserve the environment in which we all live.

Virgo: To achieve genuine world peace, we need a sense of universal responsibility. First, we have to try inner disarmament - reducing our own anger and hatred while increasing mutual trust and human affection. Without inner peace, how can we have any other peace?

Libra: Practising compassion is developing the understanding that all beings are the same as we are, and suffer in similar ways - to honour all those who suffer, and to know you are neither separate from, nor superior to, anyone else.

Scorpio: Many of our problems are caused by our own thoughts. As human beings we experience anger, attachment, jealousy and hatred - these are our real enemies. The true troublemaker is inside us. Without internal peace it is difficult to achieve world peace.

Sagittarius: Violence only breeds more violence and suffering. We know that in the event of a nuclear war there will be no victors, because there will be no survivors. In this century we have made remarkable material progress, but our spiritual needs are still very great.

Capricorn: As the world becomes smaller and more interdependent, we will not survive without a sense of universal responsibility. This means feeling others' suffering as we our own - realising that all beings want the same things, that our enemy is motivated by the same quest for happiness we are.

Aquarius: Our enemies are the ones who provide us with the challenges we need to develop the qualities of tolerance, patience and compassion. This makes them most valuable teachers. Your worst enemy is really your best friend.

Pisces: World peace through vengeance and force is impossible. Revenge is destructive, and further increases human misery. If you achieve your goal by violent means, there are always side effects, and these can be worse than the problem.
