Dads Put in the Picture
Grafton certainly produces some good photographers judging by the results of the recent Father's Day Photo Competition announced last week.
Budding photographers from Grafton won two of the four categories, with another three Grafton residents taking out places and four others receiving highly commended awards. Alstonville High School was also heavily represented with school teacher, Michelle King, winning the open section and two students receiving places in other categories.
The winners were:
- Section 1/Open: 1st - Michelle King of Lismore; 2nd - Gavin Willis of Grafton; 3rd - Jenny Oliver of Rock Valley.
- Section 2/Photos featuring a male 12-18 years with father/carer: 1st - Sam Nichols, 14, of South Grafton High School; 2nd - Rebecca Howlett, 16, of Alstonville High School; 3rd - Jessica Lodge, 16, of Alstonville High School.
- Section 3/Secondary student photographer: 1st - Jess Moran, 14, of South Grafton High School; 2nd - Leanne Pugh, 17, of South Grafton High School; 3rd - Holly Gulliver, 16, of Nimbin Central School.
- Section 4/Primary student photographer: 1st - Joshua Mapstone, 12, of Lismore Public School; 2nd - Monika Nowland, 11, of South Grafton Primary School; 3rd - Sylvia Nagy, 9, of Albert Park Public School in Lismore.
'The judges really had a difficult time choosing the winners and place-getters... all the photographs were so good we ended up with 14 highly commended awards!' laughed competition judge and Lismore Camera president, Marie Cook, said.
The competition entries will be on display September 17-22, at the Lismore Shopping Square and then from Thursday-Saturday, September 27-29 at Ballina Fair. People can also vote for their favourite photo in the People's Choice Award, to be announced in December.
