Around the Bend - John de LombardoByron Bay photographer John de Lombardo has always been fascinated by the human body, and has spent a lifetime capturing its nuances on film.
He produces highly sought after fine art nudes, but describes his models as 'the kind of people you meet on the street rather than glamour models or would-be hunks'.
'As you can imagine, there are many interesting stories and anecdotes from behind these photo shoots,' he chuckles. 'My preference is to work with strong characters or unusual looking people. I find them far more interesting and challenging as subjects.' But nothing prepared him for the new direction his work would take the day he saw a professional contortionist. It opened up a whole new world in terms of the human body, and John has spent the last three years capturing the body twisted and turned in the most extraordinary ways, producing more than 1,000 images. Most of his work can be seen on his website - www.artflex.com - which attracts around 3,000 visitors a day from around the globe. But at the moment, you can see the real thing at the Tub Gallery in Byron Bay.
The exhibition, Artflex - Part One, is a series of 50 images based around nude contortion, flexible bodies and performance artists. The show runs until July 28. The Tub Art Gallery is at 84 Centennial Circuit, in the Byron Industrial Estate. Phone 6685 5992. |
