Simply stunning
Most people know the feeling of going to an exhibition and staring for hours on end at paintings you just can't understand, and the harder you try the harder they are to decipher.
However a new exhibition by Jasmine-Rose Robinson, Alive & Humming, does away with the complexities of modern-day art and simply strives to reflect the most fundamental part of every human - their emotions. Each work by Jasmine is a little like the last in style and technique because they are part of a series, but in essence they're all completely different. Each individual piece is designed to "rejoice in the beauty of emanating emotions" whether it's exuberant joy or quiet contemplation. "A lot of artwork these days is about deconstruction, symbolism and ideologies - which can be very hard to understand unless you've been to art school," Jasmine said.
"My artworks might be complex in their design, but what they portray is very simple. I'll see someone going through a clear emotion, a certain expression on their face and I'll capture it in my head. It could be someone from my family, a friend or just someone in a crowd - it's whatever moves me." The use of colour also plays an important role in Jasmine's art. "Colour can express an emotion or movement as well as any drawing can," Jasmine said. "I love colour, it's vibrant and alive - a lot like human emotion I guess." Alive & Humming's opening night is tomorrow, July 6, at Caddies from 5.30-8pm. Entertainment will include performances by local poet Tanya Delys Mandorla and singers Terri Nicholson, Vasudha and Andy Parkes. Entry is by gold coin donation. The exhibition runs until July 31. |
