Domino (MA)
Directed by Tony Scott
Hottie du jour Keira Knightley is Domino, an ex-catwalk model-turned-bounty hunter in what is apparently a true story. Sort of.
Director Tony Scott has loosely based his frenetic, full-on heist flick on real-life bounty hunter Domino Harvey, daughter of the late actor, Laurence Harvey.
Moving to Hollywood with her mother (Jacqueline Bisset) after her father's death, the angst-ridden Domino fails to adjust to the 90210 lifestyle. After being expelled from college for breaking a sorority sister's nose she finds work with bail bondsman Claremont Williams (Delroy Lindo) and joins his team of bounty hunters, Ed (Mickey Rourke), Choco (Edgar Ramirez) and Alf (Rizwan Abbasi).
This is the career she's been training for since she was 12 years old. She's a martial arts expert, can handle any kind of gun and does a mean lap dance, plus she's not afraid to die!
When Domino wins bounty hunter of the year, the team is approached by reality TV producer Mark Heiss (Christopher Walken) who signs them up for their own show hosted by ex-Beverley Hills 90210 cast members Ian Ziering and Brian Austin Green.
But this is just the start of the team's problems. Soon a bloodied and bruised Domino is trying to explain their actions to FBI agent Taryn Miles (Lucy Liu).
Credibility is stretched to breaking point in this male fantasy marathon: Knightley playing with nunchukas, Knightley lap-dancing, Knightley blasting away with a machine-gun in each hand, and... wait for it... a close-up of Knightley's thong and bum crack.
Give me a break, especially when it's all shot in headache-inducing, choppy MTV style. Scripted by Donnie Darko's Richard Kelly, Domino's convoluted storyline had me furrowing my brow several times as I tried to follow the plot.
Thankfully, I was impressed by the performances of its mega-cast which also includes Mena Suvari and Dabney Coleman.
And while two hours seems 30 minutes too long for its short attention span targeted audience, Domino will no doubt go off!
