Must Love Dogs

Directed by Gary Goldberg

Hands up all those who have used an online dating service. I haven't, but if I ever did, my profile would definitely include the line 'Must love dogs'. Actually I'd probably be even more specific and put 'Must love poodles'!

Pre-school teacher Sarah Nolan (Diane Lane) has been wallowing in self-pity ever since her divorce eight months ago. Her family and friends have had enough. When their intervention doesn't work Sarah's sister Carol (Elizabeth Perkins) goes online and places Sarah's profile on perfectmatch.com, concluding it with the line 'Must love dogs'! This is a sure way to screen out any nutters or psychopaths, right Adolf? Her site is a smash hit, due in no small part to the 20-year-old photograph Carol used. But Sarah is far from pleased when she discovers what her well-meaning sister has done. She's even more miffed when she finally agrees to go on a date only to find out to her horror that her "perfect match" is none other than her father (Christopher Plummer) who has been using the internet for years to pick up women. Yikes!

Carefully repressing that icky encounter, which turned out to be just a big mix-up, Sarah bravely attempts another date, this time with the hopeless romantic and recently divorced Jake (John Cusack). Is he her perfect match or should she take the yummy and obviously interested Bob (Dermot Mulroney) for a test drive. He's drop-dead-gorgeous but does he love dogs?

Ok, so Must Love Dogs probably won't ever make it to the top 10 list of best-ever romantic comedies, but there's still a lot to love about this movie besides the adorable pooches.

There's the extremely cute John Cusack, who can act his bootilicious butt off, as well as the rest of the fab cast, which also includes Stockard Channing.

There are plenty of laughs thank to the witty script and enough warm and fuzzy moments to satisfy all the hopeless romantics.

If you loved You've Got Mail then I highly recommend Must Love Dogs as another major chick flick!
