Police will be holding a driving crackdown this Thursday, targeting seatbelts,
helmets for bike riders and the use of hand-held mobile phones. L- and P-plate
drivers will also targeted for driving offences.
Police are investigating a series of break and enters on Lismore businesses
over the weekend. Between 12.15pm Saturday and 8.30am Monday a business in Magellan
Street, Lismore, had both internal and external walls damaged; a laptop computer
was stolen from a business in Club Lane between 7.20pm Sunday and 8am Monday;
and entry was forced at a business in Keen Street between 12noon Sunday and 6.30am
Monday.
An amplifier, acoustic guitar and macadamia nuts were stolen from a property
in Neilson Street, East Lismore, following a break in some time between 12.30pm
Saturday and 9am Sunday.
A 30-year-old Goonellabah man was killed when his utility crossed onto the
wrong side of the road and collided with oncoming traffic on the Bruxner Highway
at Alphadale around 3.20pm on Saturday. A 48-year-old Goonellabah woman was seriously
injured when the utility collided with her west-bound car.
Police are warning people about a British email lottery scam. A Ballina couple
have received several emails saying they've won £750,000 in a lottery they
didn't enter. Police said people should not supply banking or personal details
to anyone in order to 'claim' the alleged prize.
Police are investigating the theft of several pushbikes: a mountain bike, valued
at $735, stolen from Barrett Drive, Lennox Head between 4pm Sunday and 6am Monday
and two pushbikes, valued at $510, from a rear yard in Tamar Street, Ballina,
between 9.30pm Friday and 11am Sunday.
A garden hose and reel were stolen from a front yard in Oliver Avenue, Goonellabah,
between 10am Saturday and 3.30pm Monday. Any information to Lismore Police on

With fuel at record prices, Police are warning businesses with on-site fuel
storage to take extra precautions. Police are investigating the theft of 3436
litres of fuel taken at varying times from a local depot sometime between Monday,
August 15, and Saturday, September 11.
A 26-year-old man was killed in a house fire on a remote property at The Channon
on Monday night. Police and Fire Brigade officers were called to the shack around
11.30am Tuesday to find the house had been completely razed and the fire had extinguished
itself. They located the charred remains of a man and a post mortem will be held
to formally identify him. The circumstances surrounding his death are unknown,
but the fire is not being treated as suspicious at this stage. Inquiries are continuing.
