This is the fourth year the Indigenous Art and Culture Exhibition has been presented in the Northern Rivers and according to NPWS regional manager, Mark Johnston, this year's competition attracted some of the most magnificent works to date.
"It is great to see there is such talent in the Northern Rivers and the theme of this year's competition, Living Culture, seems to have really struck a chord with Aboriginal people," Mark said.
The Indigenous Art and Culture Exhibition features everything from on-site installations of cultural artefacts and handcrafted sculptures to traditional dot paintings, colourful contemporary pieces and digitally enhanced prints.
Each of the pieces reflects the strong connection Indigenous people have with their land, and the rich heritage and culture that has been passed down by Aboriginal elders for countless generations. It is fitting that the exhibition is on display in Nimbin - one of the region's most spiritually significant areas for Aboriginal people.
The Nimbin School of Arts is open every day from 10am-4pm. The exhibition will remain on show until July 17. |
