A Nimbin man has died during a house fire in Kirkland's Lane, Nimbin, around
12.15am last Thursday. Police and Rural Fire Service crews worked frantically
with neighbours to extinguish the blaze but the intensity was too great and the
house was incinerated. The sole male occupant's remains were later removed from
the scene. Police say a cause of death is yet to be determined.
Police have charged a 20-year-old Lismore man with assault occasioning grievous
bodily harm after he allegedly stabbed a 31-year-old man in the early hours of
last Thursday morning. The assault occurred at licensed premises in Keen Street.
A 40-year-old Lismore man was taken to a Brisbane hospital with serious injuries
after being assaulted in Keen Street around 8pm last Wednesday. The victim sustained
a broken jaw and lost several teeth following an altercation with another man.
He was initially treated in Lismore but due to the seriousness of his injuries,
was transferred to Brisbane where his jaw was wired. Police are waiting on a medical
report before charges can be laid.
Three mobile phones, two pagers, a handbag, cash, credit cards, keys and a
CD player were all stolen from a home in Pineview Crescent in Goonellabah between
11.30pm Saturday and 1.30am Sunday. It is believed the thieves entered via a closed
but unlocked backyard door and stole the items while the owner slept. Any information

Police are seeking information following the theft of 10 cattle from a property
on Cowlong Road, McLeans Ridges, on May 19. As well as the 10 Angus and Murray
Grey breeding cows, thieves also stole a considerable amount of assorted farm

A water pump was stolen from a property on Ellangowan Road, Ellangowan, between
6pm Monday and 7am Tuesday morning. The pump is a Davey Dynajet 50 stock type

Two Lismore teenagers aged 14 and 15 have been charged with a string of offences
after stealing a car from a home in William Place, Goonellabah, around 8.20pm
on Sunday night. The offenders then allegedly drove the vehicle to Queensland
and back. Police spotted the vehicle around 6.50am on Monday and the pair fled.
They were eventually arrested around 8.20am in Ballina Road, Goonellabah.
