An 18-year-old Goonellabah man was stabbed in the chest after being threatened by two men in Ballina Street around 3.20am last Sunday. The man tried to run from his attackers, but they followed him into Dixon Street, where they allegedly punched him in the mouth and stabbed him in the chest before driving away. Police were alerted by security guards who found the man semi-conscious at a university college. He was taken to Lismore Base Hospital and airlifted to Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane for emergency surgery. The man is now in a satisfactory condition and police inquiries are continuing.
A 31-year-old Port Macquarie man died in a car accident south of Nimbin last Thursday. The man's Holden sedan was discovered in a drain by a passing motorist at 1.30pm that day. Police are preparing a report for the Coroner.
Police are once again warning businesses to secure their safes after a considerable amount of cash was stolen from a business safe at Knockrow between 5.35pm Sunday and 8.15am Monday. After breaking into the premises, the offender/s stole a floor safe from the office after ripping it from its mounts. It is the eighth safe to be stolen from local businesses over the last two months. Police are encouraging businesses to secure safes immediately and install audible alarm systems. Police are seeking information after valuables were stolen from three cars parked at the Goonellabah Shopping Centre between 11 and 11.30am on Monday. The offender/s broke into a 2004 Holden, 2004 Toyota and 1999 Land Rover, stealing wallets, mobile phones and handbags from each of the vehicles. Police are now seeking information about two males aged between 12 and 18 who were seen in the area at the time. One was wearing an orange shirt, while the other was wearing a white shirt and black pants. Any information to Lismore Police on 6623 1599.
Casino police are seeking information after two cameras were stolen from a home in Cedar Avenue, Casino, while the 66-year-old owner was watching television on Tuesday night. A male and female entered the man's home between 6.40 and 6.50pm on Tuesday night and stole a black Fuji Finepix digital SLR and a black and chrome 35mm Pentax SLR with a telephoto lens. Lismore police are seeking information after thieves ransacked an 81-year-old woman's house in Teven Street, Goonellabah, between 8.30pm Tuesday and 2am Wednesday morning. The thieves trashed every room of the house while the woman slept, and stole a considerable amount of cash. Any information to Lismore Police on 6623 1599.
