The unique and beautiful geography of the Northern Rivers is the inspiration for a new exhibition entitled A Sense of Space, which opens this Friday, April 15, at the Blue Knob Hall ArtSpace, Gallery & Café near Nimbin. Using paint, ceramics, photography, felt, fabric and drawing media, a group of local artists have explored how the spectacular scenery of the region touches them individually, and the profound significance it has on their lives. The Blue Knob Hall ArtSpace, Gallery & Café was opened in September last year following a mammoth effort by a group of volunteers, who spent 4000 hours turning the community hall into an artist-run gallery. It has stunning views of Blue Knob to the east and Lillian Rock to the north, making it the perfect space for such an exhibition. A Sense of Space will be opened this Friday from 5.30-7.30pm, with a talk by indigenous artist Burri Jerome at 6pm on landscape as a source of sacred space. The gallery is located 7km along the Blue Knob Road north of Nimbin. The exhibition will be on show until May 15. |
