The most innovative, creative and thought-provoking art and design works created by NSW TAFE students over the last 12 months are now on show at the Lismore Regional Gallery as part of the touring exhibition The Prize 2004: TAFE NSW Art & Design. The exhibition showcases the work of 66 finalists from the TAFE NSW Art & Design Prize, which attracted more than 900 entries from across the state last year. The works range from flamboyant costume and jewellery pieces to paintings, digital photography, ceramics and sculpture - each with a unique story behind its creation. Lismore TAFE ceramicist Louise Fulton is one of the local finalists included the exhibition, with her amazing collection of miniature vases called Chatelaine Suite. It features a series of delicate, porcelain vases moulded in the female form, which Louise has then 'tattooed' with a series of ornate, damascene-like patterns. The Prize 2004: TAFE NSW Art & Design opens tonight (Thursday, March 31) at the gallery from 5.30pm. It will be on show until May 7. Lismore TAFE is also currently showcasing other art and design works by local students who unfortunately weren't included in the touring exhibition. The standard is exceptional and it's a great way to see some of the amazing local talent TAFE is helping to foster. Check it out at Lismore TAFE's Space Gallery until May 9. |
