A new exhibition of mixed media works by Terania Creek artist Wayne Kane will be launched this Saturday, February 26, at Dragonfly Café in Lismore. The exhibition, entitled Homelands, was inspired by Wayne's move from Sydney to the North Coast three years ago, when he decided to make a drastic change in lifestyle and escape from the corporate world. His instincts led him to the Northern Rivers, where he settled on a beautiful property named 'Goanna Rocks' in Terania Creek. For Wayne, Homelands is a symbolic exhibition in which he uses colour, texture and form to reflect his emotional connection to his new home. "Homelands is about celebrating the journeys we take to find a sense of place and security in our lives, whether it is transient or permanent," he said. "These journeys are always joined and connected like so many other journeys through the anchoring of one's self to any site, place or person. My journey is about coming from the insanity of the city and the emotional adjustment of living rurally." Wayne is currently a third year student at Southern Cross University, where he is completing a double degree in education/visual arts. "It has been a dream of mine to become an artist since I was a child and the Northern Rivers has given me the space, freedom and creativity to realise that dream," Wayne said. Saturday's opening will run from 6-8pm and people will have the opportunity to meet Wayne and chat about the works. Homelands will be on show until March 26. |
