Police enquiries are continuing into the disappearance of German backpacker Simone Strobel, who went missing on Friday night from the Lismore tourist caravan park around 11.30pm. See front page for full details.
Police are seeking information from the public after three break and enters in Alstonville over the weekend. A small amount of cash was stolen from a house in Adele Street between 9pm Saturday and 12.30am Sunday, while a handbag was stolen from a unit in Green Street between 6 and 8.30pm on Saturday night. A 2000 Magna was also stolen from a house in Bahama Avenue, using keys that were found inside the premises. In all three cases offender/s gained access via open windows and unlocked doors. Police are seeking information in relation to a break and enter at Richmond River High School between 4am and 4.07am on Sunday morning. It appears the offender/s have used a stolen 1991 Toyota sedan, which was stolen from Alstonville earlier. The Toyota was recovered by Police near the scene after the offender/s had lost control, crashed and abandoned it. Any information to Lismore Police on 6623 1599.
Police and security guards have arrested and charged a 28-year-old Lismore man after he allegedly damaged a $1500 plate glass window in Molesworth Street, Lismore, between 12.45 and 12.55am on Sunday morning.
Police are seeking information from the public in relation to a break and enter at Wilson Park Public School between 6pm Monday and 5am Tuesday morning. Several rooms were ransacked and at this stage it is unknown the value of damage or total amount of property stolen. Residents close to and surrounding local schools are asked to be vigilant following a recent increase in school break-ins. Anyone who sees people trespassing or acting suspiciously should contact Lismore Police immediately on 6623 1599.
A 56-year-old Lennox Head man has been arrested and charged with drug offences after Police found 10 mature cannabis plants at his North Creek Road home around 12.30pm on Tuesday. He will appear in Ballina Local Court for possession and cultivation of prohibited plants on March 31.
Highway Patrol Sergeant Jodie Hamilton is reminding motorists to drive to conditions following numerous accidents in the last 48 hours. These include:
- A young woman allegedly lost control of her vehicle on Ellis Road at Alstonville on Tuesday. The vehicle rolled and was written off as a result. The woman received no injuries.
- An 18-year-old man had an accident on Fernleigh Road at Tintenbar, 400m north of Teven Road, on Tuesday. The man received no injuries and his vehicle was towed.
- Two vehicles collided at the intersection of Ballina Street and Rotary Drive in Lismore on Tuesday. Both vehicles were driven from the scene and both parties were uninjured.
- A female driver drove her car into the kerb at Kellas Street in Lismore on Tuesday. The vehicle was unable to be driven.
Police are seeking information regarding the disappearance of a $4000 pool table from the beer garden of the Eltham Friendly Inn. The table had been left out for repairs and it is believed the theft occurred between 10.30pm on Saturday, January 22, and 9am on Sunday, January 23. The table was only discovered missing on Monday when repairers came to collect it. Any information to Lismore Police on 6623 1599.
