Three third-year Southern Cross University visual arts students have combined their creative talents for a new exhibition called The Enduring Ache of Memory. The exhibition, which is currently on show at Armistead's Gallery in Lismore, showcases the work of Courtney-Ann Griffiths-Breese, Louise Irving and Deborah Benhayon. Together the trio have used etchings, silkscreen prints, handmade paper, artist's books and an installation to develop an exhibition that explores notions of memory. "The central theme is memory but we've all taken a slightly different approach," Courtney said. "Louise's works look at the space of home and the transformation that occurs through repeated remembering, while Deborah's works look at how memory can affect an individual's perception - an idea she has explored through textural, layered works. My works look at the concept of forgiveness and its relationship to memory, and the ability of memory to be both ephemeral and eternal." Through their collaboration the trio seeks to present a visually poetic sense of their experience of memory. The Enduring Ache of Memory is on show at Armistead's Gallery until March 2. Armistead's Gallery is at 43b Wyrallah Road. For more information phone 6622 8011. |
