A new exhibition curated by local poet Rebecca Rushbrook, entitled The Body, opens at the Lismore Regional Gallery tonight (Thursday, February 10) from 5.30pm. The exhibition, which features paintings, prints, sculptures and drawings from the gallery's permanent collection, invites people to consider their relationship to the body. "The human body is common to all of us," Rebecca said. "It is our vehicle, our comfort, our trial, our delight, our shame and our most intimate partner." To coincide with The Body, local artist Sergio Torrez will conduct a life drawing class at the gallery this Saturday, February 12, at 2.30pm. To book a place phone 6622 2209. The gallery is also featuring two other exhibitions during February. The first is Third Age Eyes Wide, which celebrates the passionate community of the University of the Third Age, or U3A as it's more commonly known. Exhibition coordinator, Wendy Lageman, said "Members of the University of the Third Age, Northern Rivers, after attending a series of lectures on great painters, decided they'd like to mount an exhibition of their own artwork, since many of them are and have been professional artists." The second exhibition is a photographic series by Muriel Kinson called Looking For Pleasure, which is inspired by the beautiful local environment and vibrant community of the North Coast. "I bought my first digital camera in Lismore and have never tired of the astounding array of natural beauty that flourishes here," she said. Members of the U3A will present performances during tonight's opening, with music by The Gallery Consort and poetry by Quendryth Young. All three exhibitions will be on show until February 19. |
