Sculpture culture

With less than three weeks to go before the Thursday Plantation East Coast Sculpture Show closes, it's well worth taking a drive to Ballina to see this unique art collection.

Each year sculptors are invited to use the grounds of Thursday Plantation as one big canvas, giving them the freedom to create large-scale artworks that could not fit within the conventional four walls of a gallery.

The result is an unusual rambling exhibition, with sculptures nestled amongst the beautiful rainforest, strategically placed in the botanical gardens or sprawled in the paddocks around the plantation.

As well as the permanent sculptures that have been acquired from previous years, there are 64 new sculptures this year, making for a diverse and engaging art experience.

The Thursday Plantation East Coast Sculpture Show is on display until January 31. As well as browsing through the grounds, visitors can also enjoy a coffee in the plantation's treetop cafe and discover the many benefits and uses of tea tree.
