Rise above it

For the last 12 months during each full moon phase, local photographer Paul de Wolf has roamed the Northern Rivers countryside, searching for the most beautiful shots of the moon as it rises above the horizon. The result of this year-long project is a new exhibition called Moonrises Over Caladan, which is now on show at Caddies in Lismore.

Paul chose to call the exhibition Moonrises Over Caladan because the vivid colours he captured as the moon rose were so rich, he believes they looked like something from another planet.

"The exhibition was originally conceived as Moonrise Over Camelot - it's so long ago I can't remember what initially inspired me but it was most likely seeing a full moon rise," Paul said. "The title had to be changed when I photographed a double moonrise."

Although Paul has a reputation for photographing women beautifully, he readily admits his favourite subject is nature.

In this exhibition Paul has 16 images, all of which are printed on Ilfordchrome - the only photographic material accepted by major galleries as it lasts for at least 290 years.

Moonrises Over Caladan is on show until the end of December.
