Police are warning people about keeping their valuables safe around swimming holes and beaches this summer after a 30-year-old man had his $900 surfboard stolen last Wednesday morning. The man had gone for a walk along the beach after leaving the board on the back seat of his car in the Broken Head car park.
Ballina Police are appealing for witnesses after a plate glass door, valued at $1000, was smashed at Dominos Pizza in River Street, Ballina, around 12.30pm last Wednesday. A man, described as 180cm (6ft) tall, Caucasian, mid 20s, of thin build, wearing a red shirt and long pants, kicked the door and abused staff before leaving on a motorised scooter.
Thieves stole building equipment from the Scout Hall in Canal Road, Ballina, some time between 3.30am Tuesday and 6.30am Wednesday. A large number of tools and electrical equipment, including power drills, power saws, a nail gun and assorted tools were taken. Information to Ballina Police on 6681 8699.
Two men broke into a business in Canterbury Street, Casino, on Sunday night. Police patrolling in Centre Street at 11.15pm saw the men pushing two green wheelie bins containing stolen property. They tried to flee, but Police arrested and charged a 31-year-old Casino man with break, enter and steal. The other man is still being sought. Any information to Casino Police on 6662 0099.
A man seen stealing children's clothes from a clothesline in Pacific Terrace, Ballina, is being sought by Police. The man is described as being around 20-years-old, 183cm tall, of slight build, and wearing a blue/purple surf-style jumper with a hood pulled overhead, and brown board shorts with cargo style pockets. He was seen in the backyard around 10.30pm Sunday but ran into bushland when challenged. Any information to Ballina Police on 6681 8699.
A 45-year-old woman in Highfield Terrace, Lismore, was getting ready for work on Sunday night when she had her bedroom ransacked and thieves stole jewellery.
A thief, described as a 20-year-old man, Caucasian of average build, broke into a house in Dudley Drive, Goonellabah, through a front window between 12.30pm and 4.15pm on Saturday. He used cutters from the garden to lever open a front window and stole a video camera, a stills camera and a laptop.
A 63-year-old woman had her handbag and keys stolen on Monday night around 10pm after a thief distracted her by knocking on the door. When she answered the door no-one was there. Meanwhile the thief had removed the rear flyscreen and climbed through an open window. Any information to Ballina Police on 6681 8699.
A series of incidents occurred around Goonellabah earlier this week. On Sunday night, the windscreen of a car parked in Invercauld Road, was smashed. Jewellery was stolen from a property in Stevenson Street, some time 1pm and 3.35pm on Monday, and between 2pm and 3.30pm the same day thieves forced entry into premises in Coomera Place and stole jewellery. Nimbin Police are seeking information following the theft of five motorcycles, valued at around $20,000, plus electrical equipment from a property on Blue Knob Road. About 4pm on Monday witnesses saw a white utility, described as single cab with aluminium tray, with a blue tarp covering a large object, drive out of the victim's property. An 18 year- old Lismore man will face Court for driving while disqualified after he was spotted driving in Conway Street on Tuesday morning. His two-year ban was due to end in a fortnight.
A black and purple Kawasaki 750cc motorcycle, registration VFP33, was stolen from a carpark in Woodlark Street, Lismore, on Tuesday night. If sighted, do not approach, but contact Police immediately on 6623 1599.
