Catwoman (M)

What a purr-fect outfit. Halle Berry as Catwoman with nemesis Sharon Stone.
I know Catwoman, the latest comic book adaption to grace the big screens, has not been receiving the most flattering of reviews but I wasn't going to let that put me off. After all, I like cats and the boyfriend likes hot babes in skimpy leather outfits wielding whips. This movie had plenty of both. And boy, its star Halle Berry does look purr-ty!
She gets to strut her stuff as the comics heroine in a fashion that will warm the cockles of a middle-aged man's heart.
Berry stars as Patience Philips, graphic designer, fashion victim and all-round too nice person - the kind who would risk her life to rescue a cat. When she accidentally discovers the dreadful truth about Hedare Beauty, the cosmetic company she works for, Patience is murdered - only to be brought back to life by a magical, mysterious puddy cat. But she is no longer the mousy, timid woman she used to be - now the only thing mousy about her are her snacks! Meow! Time to whip some bad guy butt!
Sound scary? You betcha! Does Halle Berry look hot in her skin-tight black leather ensemble? You betcha!
A disappointing cinema experience? Surprisingly enough, no - if you go into Catwoman with very low expectations. The film's style is very cartoonish, especially the CGI effects, and considering it's based on a comic strip that's not a major crime.
But everybody, with the exception of Patience's love interest, policeman Tom Lone (Benjamin Bratt), overacts. Especially Sharon Stone and Lambert Wilson who both ham it up to the max. Once again, considering the genre, that isn't a problem.
What I do have a major problem with is lousy script writing and Catwoman has one of the most pathetic scripts I've had the misfortune to endure for a long, long time. It's so bad, it's laughable and I'm not sure this is meant to be a comedy. There have been some great comic book adaptions (speaking of which, I can't wait for Hugh Jackman's next Wolverine appearance) but this isn't one of them.
Recommended only for fans and randy boys keen on a bit of voyeurism.
