A 19-year-old Lismore man was charged with receiving stolen goods last Wednesday following a long-running investigation into the theft of musical instruments from North Coast schools. During their inquiries, police discovered the man sold an 'Artiste' brand cello and a 'Buffet' brand clarinet, valued at $4000, to second hand stores for a fraction of their value. Police inquiries are continuing.
A 50-year-old woman visiting a Lismore jewellery store last Wednesday took off a $4000 ring while trying on other jewellery, then left the store at around 11.40am before realising she had left the ring on the counter. She returned to the store, but the ring was missing. Any information to Lismore Police on 6623 1599.
Police are seeking information after a thief took advantage of last Wednesday's power blackout to steal a large amount of cash from a business in Boeing Avenue, Ballina, sometime between 1pm and 3pm. Police are seeking a man described as Caucasian, about 5'8" tall, fair complexion, blonde/gold short hair, approximately 20-years-old, wearing a red striped t-shirt and light bone-coloured pants to help them with their inquiries. A learner motorbike rider will appear before Lismore Local Court facing a dangerous riding charge after he was clocked on radar travelling at 152km/h on the Bruxner Highway at Clovass around 11.25pm last Thursday. Learner riders are limited to 80kmh.
Police received numerous reports of attempted and stolen motor vehicles over the weekend. On Sunday between 7.15pm and 7.45pm a 1991 Nissan Sylvia was stolen from outside a premises in Dawson Street, Lismore. The same day, a 1981 Toyota Corolla was stolen from Range Court, Goonellabah. The vehicle was found at 7.05pm in Duke Street, Goonellabah. Between 10pm Saturday and 8.30am Sunday, tried to steal a 1990 Holden Commodore from Palmvale Drive, Goonellabah. Between 10pm Saturday and 4am Sunday, thieves also tried to steal a 2000 Hyundai Excel from a driveway in Greenhill's Drive, Goonellabah. On Saturday night, thieves stole a 1992 Toyota Lexcen station wagon from Beaumont Drive, Lismore. The vehicle was later found on Wyrallah Road, East Lismore.
The 31-year-old licensee of a Casino hotel was fined $550 plus court costs as a result of an unlawful trading breach of the Liquor Act. Casino Licensing Police found the licensee trading unlawfully at the Primex site in June, during the Primex Trade exhibition. The licensee operated two bar outlets at the Primex site but had failed to get appropval from the Licensing Court of NSW to trade at the site.
