Three teenage boys are facing Children's Court following the theft of a car and a break in at a house in Bridge Street, Wyrallah on Sunday afternoon.
The children, aged just 14, were arrested on Sunday around 5.30pm after Police received a report of a car driving erratically in Ross Street, Ballina, around 5.20pm.
The Dihatsu Sirion, which has been stolen earlier that afternoon along with a range of electrical goods including an NEC DVD player, a Toshiba laptop, a Toshiba pocket PC, a stereo system and a blue motorised scooter, when the thieves allegedly ransacked the Wyrallah house and had been driving down Ross Street on a number of occasions - doing a burnout, swerving, narrowly missing parked cars and children playing in the street. Following an accident in Canal Road, Ballina, one of the thieves stayed behind to change a tyre, while the other two allegedly attempted a further break-in at the home of an 87-year-old woman. When Police arrived on the scene they found the car jacked up and the stolen goods on the rear seat of the car. The children were arrested and charged with a number of offences. Two have been remanded in custody until September 27 to face Court and the other until September 16.
Four young men have been charged with a range of offences after they tried to flee police in an unregistered car on Sunday. Police spotted the 1984 Ford Falcon on Nimbin Road around 10.15am, but when they tried to stop the car it headed straight at them and Police were forced to take evasive action. After a short pursuit the driver crashed on a bend in Wilson Street and the car slid down an embankment and became lodged in a drain. The occupants attempted to flee, but were arrested after they were trapped by the river. Two youths, aged 17, will appear in Lismore Children's Court while the other men, aged 23 and 24, have also received summonses to appear in Lismore Court.
A 1990 Holden Commodore, registration 277ENI (Qld plates), was stolen from a private carpark in Conway Street, Lismore, on Tuesday night. If sighted, contact Police immediately.
A$3000 laptop computer was stolen from a shop in Carrington Street, Lismore, on Tuesday between 1.30pm and 2pm. The PC had been left unattended on the counter while the owner was busy with customers. Any information to Lismore Police on 6623 1599.
Ballina Police are seeking information after two males on pushbikes were seen acting suspiciously in Bentinck Street, Ballina, around 10.45pm on Tuesday night. Police arrived a short time later to discover the window of a business had been damaged and that the offenders have left behind one of the pushbikes. Phone Police on 6681 8699.
A 1997 Toyota sedan was stolen from a driveway in Rous Road, Goonellabah, around round 6pm on Monday. Police spotted the car on the Pacific Highway at Pimlico around at 8.40pm and after a short chase the car came to a sudden stop and several young males ran into cane fields. One 14-year-old boy was arrested and charged after he was found hiding under thick vegetation in the river.
A TV, camera, CDs and cash were stolen from a house in Teven Street, Goonellabah, some time between 12noon and 7.15pm on Monday. Thieves gained entry by forcing a screen door and finding the front door unlocked. Any information to Lismore Police on 6623 1599.
A teenage woman's car was damaged after thieves attempted to steal it from the driveway of a house in Sunset Drive, Goonellabah, on Monday. The victim said she heard a loud bang shortly after hearing a car pull up around 11.15pm. She went outside to find her car had collided with another vehicle after rolling backwards down the street.
