Anthea began her artistic pursuits in 1948 when she enrolled at the East Sydney Technical College - now the National Art School - and completed a five-year diploma. The next decade was filled with teaching, travelling, living overseas and, on her return, marrying and starting a family.
Anthea's engagement with the landscape began in the early 70s when she and her family moved from Sydney to the NSW south coast. Anthea soon became enthralled and inspired by her surroundings - the eucalypt forests, the rocks, the rivers, the sea and the open expanses and vast skies of the Monaro. It became a feature of her work and led to a number of successful exhibitions in Canberra and the south coast. In the early 90s Anthea's work moved into a more abstract style as she became absorbed in geometric symbolic forms and the use of strong vibrant colours.
Anthea and her husband now live in Kyogle where she continues to paint. She currently has works in the collections of the Australian National University and the University of Wollongong, and in private collections in Australia and overseas.
The works in this exhibition cover a period from the late 60s until the present, exploring Anthea's long association with art through a series of paintings and collages. The Story Of My Life will open this Saturday at 11am. Everyone is welcome. It will be on show until August 25.
