A 12-year- old girl appeared in Lismore Children's Court on Tuesday charged with possession after she was arrested carrying eight rings allegedly stolen during a break-in at a Lismore jeweller on Monday night. Police allege that after the girl was stopped by security guards in Brewster Street at 11.30pm, she claimed to have picked up the rings up from the footpath after witnessing men smash the window of the shop, which was attacked twice, once just before 7pm and again at 10.30pm. The girl was bailed conditional to co-operating with her DoCS carers, but she was back in custody again on Wednesday.
A 32-year- old Lismore man, David William Morris, has been charged with break, enter and steal, over the break-in and another break-in at Tandy in Magellan Street the same evening. In total more than $1600 worth of property was stolen. Morris remained in custody and will appear in Lismore Local Court on August 19.
Highway Patrol officers confiscated a 1985 Holden Commodore on Sunday night from an 18-year-old man doing burnouts at Angels Beach at around 1.40am
The vehicle, which is owned by the offender's father, has been confiscated for three months.
Electrical tools valued at $1399, including a power drill, angle grinder, sander and electric saw, were stolen from a shed underneath a house in Cathcart Street, Lismore some time between 5pm Saturday and 11am Sunday. Anyone with information should call Lismore Police on 6623 1599.
A group of Lismore musicians had a disastrous start to their tour when their caravan, carrying their instruments, caught fire after a tyre blew out near Parrots Nest Road on Monday afternoon. A passing motorist attempted to extinguish the blaze to no available. The Fire Brigade was called and extinguished the blaze, which had spread to a grassy verge, but the caravan was completely destroyed.
Alstonville Police are investigating the theft of two electronic dog collars from dogs at a Teven Road residence, between 5.30pm on Saturday and 7.30am Sunday. The collars, worth about $300, are part of an electronic containment system on the property. Anyone with information should phone police on 6628 0244.
Between 8:30pm on Monday and 7:30 on Wednesday morning, offenders have caused $600 damage to windows of the Ballina Surf Club in Shelly Beach Rd, East Ballina. Anyone with information should call Ballina Police on 6681 8699.
A 48-year-old boat owner and his 32 year-old male passenger managed to swim to safety when their boat capsized after being hit by a freak wave while crossing the Evans Head bar on Tuesday night. The current washed the boat to the northern side of the breakwall and onto the beach where it was recovered.
A dark blue 2000 Yamaha TTR90N motorcycle, valued at $2500, was stolen from a Crown Street, Lismore, residence on Monday night.
Ballina police are seeking the owner of an unregistered off-road motorcycle, believed to be stolen, and handed in some six weeks ago. They also have an extra-large, professionally framed oil painting retrieved following an anonymous tip-off on Monday morning. The painting was resting against a post along the edge of the lake in Links Ave, East Ballina. Contact the station on 6681 8699 to claim the items.
