A highlight of the exhibition is a collection of beautifully woven baskets by two local women - Vanessa Morris of Terania Creek and Kiersten (Kiki) Weaver of Tuntable Creek, both of whom had the opportunity to attend the 'Stringworld' workshops in Indigenous fibre crafts using traditional techniques in Arnhem Land, Northern Territory.
The intricately woven baskets are created from grass and tree fibres, using hand-made string and natural dyes with feathers and seed pods for decoration. There are also some garments made using the same natural materials.
Other works exhibited include paintings by Wendi Dillon, Colin Eley, Brigitte Havan, Tanya Thompson and Holly Ware, prints, painting and basketry by Annie Heitmann, beadwork jewellery by Roz Lokollo, print/collage by Irene Newbury, pastels by Judith Shannon, tapestry and beading by Nellie Woodburn and ceramic sculpture by Rena Woolbank.
To celebrate World Environment Day The Channon Teahouse is having a special exhibition viewing and music night on Saturday, June 5, from 6pm. Weaving Winter Warmth is on show until the end of June. The Channon Teahouse is open daily from 11am to 4pm. For information phone 6688 6276. |
