By juxtaposing present day photographs against old images the Lismore Camera Club has created a detailed overview of Lismore over the last century. From bridges and the Union Street train station to the changing face of the local fire brigade, the exhibition provides a rare opportunity to see how the town has transformed in the last 100 years.
"These photographs represent the evolution of a city with a mixture of reverence for the past and excitement about possible futures," gallery director, Bronwyn Larner, said. "The Lismore Camera Club has juxtaposed architectural trends and machinery over several generations of Lismore's development."
Although the aim of the exhibition is to document change in the city, the comparisons between old and new photographs also make clear the huge advancements in photographic technology over the years.
Lismore Through the Lens: Past and Present was created in conjunction with the Richmond River Historical Society, who provided many of the old images for the display. The exhibition is on show until May 29. |
